Link’s href is cut off after 500 characters

I have a big 1400 character long link here.

If I inspect the document, it’s saved OK in Discourse.
If I right click copy HREF then open new tab paste it and Enter it works OK too.

But if I click it, the HREF URL will get trimmed after 500 characters and I will see an error page…

It must has to do with the click tracker.

Frequent poster icons (order) determiniants in topic listings

@woosting wrote:

TL;DR: Anyone able to enlighten me on how the frequent poster icons - presented between the 'original poster' (left) and 'most recent poster' (far right) in post listings - are exactly chosen including their order-determinants?

What exactly determines 1) their presence, and 2) their order?

The following I understand from the tooltips, when hoovering over the users' icon-column icons in a topic listing (and cross-referencing this with what is actually present in the topics itself):

  • Original (first) poster is presented to the far left.
  • Most recent poster presented to the far right (unless it regards the original poster then it is signaled by a blue "glow" around its icon).
  • User icons in between are "frequent posters".

So far so good, however; the icons "in between" (the frequent posters) seem fairly randomly chosen. As in: they are not always the _most frequent posters, nor are they presented in chronological order._

What am I missing here (what is the logic behind the presentation)?

Linebreaks in posts created via email in from Gmail

A few users on our site primarily use email to post. And I've noticed recently that the posts often end up with linebreaks in strange places.

I recently replied to a post here by email and saw the same issue.

I looked at the text/plain content of the email source, and sure enough, there are line breaks there, but that isn't how I typed the message.

Should we be using the html instead? Or is there a setting in Gmail to cause the text/plain content to be formatted without line breaks?

I could turn off the "treat line breaks as line breaks" markdown setting, but I have a feeling that would just move the problem somewhere else....

Confusing, not always accurate notification "By mentioning x, you are about to notify y people"

@tobiaseigen wrote:

In our community we rely on group mentioning to make sure people are properly notified about topics they need to know about. Unfortunately, the yellow pop up notification "By mentioning x, you are about to notify y people" is not always accurate. If anyone in the mentioned group does not have access to the category the topic is being posted in, they will not be notified.

Some ideas that might help fix this confusing UI:

  • update the yellow popup message for private categories so it reads something like "You mention x, containing y people. Those with access to y category will be notified of your post."
  • indicate somewhere in the post editor the groups who have access if it's not a public category

If a fix isn't found, I'd prefer to not show this notification at all to avoid the confusion. This is already the behavior for private messages. Could showing it be an admin setting?

Gents,

I am to a point that I can't upgrade Discourse anymore. With the previous updates it gave me ENOMEM sometimes, but retrying (couple of times) the upgrade went ok, with increasing effort. Today I'm trying to upgrade but the ENOMEM is fired each time.

I have the 2GB swap thing, but a poorish 1GB of RAM.

Errno::ENOMEM: Cannot allocate memory - gzip ...

Funny thing is that the version displayed looks similar to the latest:

Hi,

I've followed your guide on migrating to mailgun but I'm having some issues with the bounce score - it's not getting updated when email sending fails.
I can see the bounces in mailgun, but when checking the email in my discourse instance, the bounce score is 0.

Are there any extra settings I might have missed for propagating the responses back to the forum?

Thanks!

Showing Discourse notifications in WordPress?an

$

@lkramer wrote:

Hello! We're considering the advised setup of WordPress installed on domain.com and discourse installed on community.domain.com and then using the WordPress plugin provided by Discourse for single sign on etc.

Obviously if someone is on community.domain.com they have a "notification" (like someone replied to a thread or what have you) the user will see that notification at the top of the screen.

But what about getting that notification to show up in WordPress? Is this functionality possible? Is it built in to the WordPress plugin already?

We envision our users will spend time on the main domain domain.com reading articles and so forth and we would like them to see any notifications they come up for forum threads they are involved in etc.

Thanks if anyone can clarify.

I am having a similar issue now, but my errors are only for non-English users. I see errors like "Uncaught ReferenceError: I18n is not defined" when I set my language to Spanish. Visually comparing the English and Spanish Javascript files shows massive differences.

The issue is very similar to this one and this one.

I have 2047MB of swap, only 47MB of which is being used currently. I have 2GB of physical RAM, 1938 MB of which is used currently (although I am in the middle of a rebuild).
