If the forum is in English and all the discussions are made in that particular language, is there a way to automatically block posts in other languages? Like, if a user creates a new topic or posts a reply, there going to be a rule which will check the language of the entry. And if the language is different than English the user will be notified accordingly.
The reason why I'm asking this question is that we are planning on creating two separate forums for two different languages. And we would like to avoid this kind of issue and forward the user to the forum with appropriate language.
I read about the anonymous posting feature but I do not know how to enable the complete anonymous option described by @BCHK:
I think discourse currently supports only anonymous posting, i.e. users can decide to post or not as anonymous. This forced you to anonymize join dates, cycle anon accounts and disable likes and other post actions.
I have a different scenario since I would like to force anonymous posting from the beginning: the behavior of discourse should not change:
original join dates
no anon account cycling (but is the AnonymousShadowCreator generated username unique?)
all actions enabled
Only admins can see real names: users only see shadow names of other users.
Join dates are not so important
If you allow anonymous_account_duration_minutes to be set to 0 and change anonymous_shadow_creator.rb accordingly you can disable anon account cycling: SiteSetting.anonymous_account_duration_minutes > 0 && shadow.last_posted_at < SiteSetting.anonymous_account_duration_minutes.minutes.ago
The problem is how to disable/not render the list of users who liked a post or display the anon name instead of the real one
Maybe I can use the Always-anonymous categories plugin or I can extend it to rewrite the like username/profile link.
In the end my need is simply replacing username everywhere, by using a discuss provided one that is unique. It would be nice if I could use two different usernames for a topic creator e.g. topicCreator123 when is commenting on their topic and anonymous456 in all other cases.
Hi ! I started recently playing with the Onebox gem to see why it wouldn't Onebox my site: https://www.avito.ma. I am no ruby developer but I understood that based on the URI , Onebox chooses what engine to use.
I also believe that there is an engine called html which is the default one if the link doesn't match any predefined engine.
The question I'm asking is : why doesn't onebox choose the default engine HTML to my website? When I'm debugging the @engine_class I get nil in the preview class , initialize method.
I know this is a nuanced question, but hopefully someone might point me in the right direction. I use JSON from topics to display the posts in an external system. I use the "posts" and "post_stream" data in that JSON file.
However on one topic (and just one, I can't see it happening on any other topic), some of the posts of the topic are randomly missing from the JSON. However they are included in the "post_stream" listing.
Any idea what's going on? is there a way to rebuild a topic within Discourse? I couldn't see a way. The only I could find was the rebuild HTML command for each post.
In the stable branch, there is a "version bump" to v1.6.6 and this version is also reported by the Discourse hub as the latest stable version. But there is no v1.6.6 tag...
I've been using DigitalOcean's awesome floating IP's to ease my maintenance process - swap the IP to a new droplet with a basic static html page, then do whatever I need to. Swap back when finished.
...and it's been working wonderfully until tonight when I finally hooked up my SSL certificates. Now I'm unable to load my server directly through my IP (only can view discourse when I use my full domain name). So I wanted to throw this discussion out to you guys again - how should we gracefully handle site maintenance on discourse? Is there a way to allow me to still view discourse directly through the IP address?

I'm using the create_for method on the Upload class, which creates a row in the uploads table amongst other things. I'm saving the id of the upload to a table i've created yet after a couple of days or so the upload seems to get trashed and no longer exists.
I'm not touching or updating the live site in any way. Is there a job that runs that deletes uploads or something of the like?
WP Discourse plugin is successfully connected to Discourse forum: "You are connected to Discourse!"
However i cant seem to find the "publish to discourse" checkbox that used to be in the post editor. I checked all options in "screen options" but there isnt anything related to Discourse. Under "add custom field" i can see the discourse related fields.
I have both Wordpress and Discourse on https, if that means anything.

Any ideas whats wrong and what i could do to debug and fix this?
recently I came across a forum (https://community.smartthings.com), quite old style i.e. main topics/thread and then users can create new topics in within that parent topic, but I find it more easy for users and want to apply this to my forum. Hello, we have had a bug where we couldn't see IPs, which was fine by us since we don't want our mods seeing IPs (if ya read my other post) but a user informed me yesterday that when they clicked "login" it would give them this page
I tried it myself and it's giving me the same issue, the only way to login is by clicking the back arrow then refreshing the page. Not sure what suddenly caused this to happen other than updating? Any idea?
I followed the 30 min installation instructions on Ubuntu 14.04 on AWS EC2 and the webserver is not started like the instructions say it should be. I am expecting the server to listen on port 80, but curling returns an empty result, curl 127.0.01. I also tried:
curling the domain I used during setup, which says connection reset by peer
curling the IP address which the installation log says the docker image is running on, "172.17.0.1", and it says connection refused.
We have mailing list mode enabled on our forum, I only have 4 people in there right now, and each user has mailing list setup to receive a daily email.
However, I'm the only person receiving emails. No one else is.
I was thinking that it might be beneficial to have an option to require re-entering the password, before switching into admin mode or taking admin actions.
Github as an example requires this and I think the main reason is to prevent/slow down destructive action by an adversary who gained access to a device with an admin login.
Is there currently a way to extract the 'last visit' marker location (as in, which is the newest post after the last visit) via the API? I have had a look at what I get from hitting the 'latest.json' endpoint, and was assuming there might be a way to derive the location of the last visit from there, but I don't think that info is in there. Or is it? Any help is greatly appreciated on this. Thanks!
PS: In case you're wondering about the use case, we're just trying to integrate discourse better into our community page, and want to alert users if there is new content available for them.
