We’re considering using Discourse in my company as it fits our requirements quite well.
The only snag is that our preferred email platform is Salesforce Marketing Cloud (nee Exact Target), which doesn’t offer an SMTP interface.
I’ve had a glance at the source code for Discourse: I have a feeling that sending emails through SMTP is quite a fundamental piece which would be hard to change, but I’d like to hear opinions from someone with more experience in the codebase.
How easy do you think it would be to replace SMTP email sending with API email sending? Could a plugin do it?
All our categories will be open to all to see and post but there will be a few categories that will be accessible only to users who request access to them.
I have created a user group “private1” (as we’ll have about 3 private categories). In the category to be private, lets say “private1 Cat”, if I remove the “everyone” group, they won’t see the category at all, if I give them , “see” rights, they will be able to see its content. What we need is that people can see the category but not see its content. This way they can know it is there and then request access to it.
So far I have only managed to make categories invisible to everyone who is not allowed to see them. or that everyone can read the content and this is no good for us.
I know this was raised before, but I can’t find the topic.
It’d be really nice if there were a way to replace the word “discourse” in the help text for the slash command, since we use /sitename as our slash command.
I can customize the entire help text, but then my documentation is “forked” and I might not know when it has to be updated.
The current help text looks like this:
New rule:/discourse [watch|follow|mute] [category] [tag:name]
(you must specify a rule type and at least one category or tag)
watch – notify this channel for new topics and new replies
follow – notify this channel for new topics
mute – block notifications to this channel
Remove rule:/discourse remove [rule number]
([rule number] can be found by running /discourse status)
List rules:/discourse status
[Experimental] Post transcript:/discourse post [n]
Create a draft topic on discourse containing the last n posts in this channel
Help:/discourse help
[6:56]
Sorry, this integration isn’t setup to support posting transcripts.
Since the last update, posts that in topics that for tagging reasons gets assigned to a moderator can’t be handled by another moderator. As the assign-function is out of our control, this causes quite a few issues for us. Any ideas here?
In the web interface there is an option for administrators to unmask all emails when examining the active user list. I don’t think that there is an API equivalent, although it would be useful. We have a case where we need to use email addresses as keys to synchronize our user list, and having to unmask each email one at a time generates enough API calls to (quickly) hit the built-in rate limiting.
Apologies if I missed this in the API documentation.
We’ve started using the word-based flags to help us identify people who may be causing issues or violating our usage terms. But - the system is also going back through old PMs - which I really don’t care about. Can you add the following options to the flag feature??
Option to only have it going forward in time (not searching through thousands of old messages and PMs)
Have options to check for having it search a. Main discussion forums (open to all) and b. Private messages
One of our admins complained about it giving all the admins access to the old PMs which they didn’t normally have access too - but I’m not too concerned about that
From one of my
“Guys, we have a problem… System is going back chronologically through the forum and flagging posts that match the automatic flag words. Which is fine. The problem is that it is flagging PMs too, giving us access to PMs that we weren’t invited to.”
What would you like done?
Some CSS customizations of the Latest/Top/New and the Topic pages, incl. adding a Likes in Latest/Top/New pages, changing the order of columns, moving Likes and Solutions to the left on Topic page, and more.
When do you need it done?
Not sure how many hours this will take - I’d expect 2-4h. We’re flexible with respect to the dates when it’s done.
What is your budget, in $ USD that you can offer for this task?
200-500$, depends on effort and possible result.
I just enabled user directory.
It was disabled all this while.
I think it was enabled just on day1.
Today I enabled, and it shows just 6 users, but my site has 2k users.
I have a customer support forum and had a person come on the forum and post a very legitimate question, the question was promptly answered and the post was buried as is natural. Eight days later this person came back and edited his post replacing the contents with a Vietnamese gambling site, but it wasn’t caught for a nearly 2 months. Since this wasn’t the last post, the thread didn’t get bumped and brought to anyone’s attention. Does anyone have ideas on how one might combat or keep on top of this type of behavior?
I just noticed that the “likes received count” includes those received through PM too.
I am going to enable the user-directory.
This way, users will be able to see who has got more likes etc.
But the current “likes-received-count” = “likes received in public” + “likes received through PM”
Anyone know how to make it “likes-received-count” = “likes-received-just-through-public-posts”
Reason I’m doing this: There are a few users in my site, who tricks the system by liking each others posts through PM to increase their “likes-count”
