Change topic title CSS style?
Jono Bacon wrote:
Hi everyone,
I would like to change the topic title to use a specific webfont and uppercase the letters.
I would like this to only affect the title on the topic page, not the topics listed on the front page (the normal font is fine for that).
Can anyone suggest the best way of doing this?
Thanks!

Logging upgrades as a Staff Action
Scott Trager wrote:
Would it be possible to update the staff action logs so that they indicate when (and by what Admin) an upgrade (either to discourse or a plugin) is made through /admin/upgrade? I noticed when updating that there is no indication of this anywhere.

Style changes for non-logged-in users
Jason May wrote:
I want to style some Discourse UI elements differently for non-logged-in users. Specifically for now, to hide some of the elements on the home page.
Is this possible to do entirely with CSS customization? I don't see any classes that distinguish whether a user login is active or not.

Custom CSS ignored since todays update
Scott Trager wrote:
Hello,
So I performed the update suggested on admin/upgrade today and since upgrading it appears to be completely ignoring custom CSS on all pages. When I press the "preview" button, it shows the front page correctly but those same changes aren't being applied to the actual front page.

Can Moderators get email about flags

I know that admins get emails about flags after they sit unanswered for to long. Is it possible to do this with moderators. It could also be possible that our moderators are mentally spam filtering those mails but I do not think so.

SOLVED: Email sent to currentEmail user validation bug
Cameron Wong wrote:
Recently we've been running into a bunch of failed validation requests, including some from long-registered users that really have no business being validated in the first place - A user who's been registered as an active user almost since forum creation is currently locked out of his account for being "unvalidated"?
We've done some snooping around (I've read the email FAQ guide, and it hasn't been particularly helpful to our issue), and currently have this to show:
Our user in question, on attempting to login and resend a validation email respectively, gets this and this. The fact that it's even saying "currentEmail" leads me to believe we've messed up some config file somewhere, but we haven't touched any conf files (and the system was working earlier). I did attempt to edit app.yml (i can copy the contents here if necessary, I won't for now for the sake of brevity), uncommenting the lines regarding the mandrill email address, etc.
According to sidekiq, any attempts to validate new users are being repelled by a message that says relay access denied - I assume that this is a Mandrill issue, but I've been able to successfully telnet to the server and ports specified from an SSH session to the main site server. ./launch mailtest also works.
We've set up a ticket to Mandrill support, but given that we're already passing the litmus tests, I'm not entirely sure how helpful that might be. Hopefully I'm just being stupid and there's something I've overlooked that might be causing this issue - I'd be happy to send you any server-side files etc (like app.yml or something) that I have access to if that's necessary; I can't personally post things that would require ACP access (that would be @jakedwhitaker), but both of us would be willing to provide any other necessary info to help address this issue so we can return to normal service ASAP.
EDIT 1:
Okay, on take 2, the validation for ./launcher mailtest app failed with an "invalid password" message - I would be extremely annoyed if this was actually the error, but email validation has been up and running for months and is just breaking now. I will return with my annoyance if this actually fixes it.
EDIT 2:
im dumb that was it

WP Discourse SSO Plugin
etc wrote:
Piggybacking off the magnificent work of @AdamCapriola and @ArmedGuy, I've cleaned up and refactored the code into a WordPress plugin to normalize the setup procedure. This plugin injects the template into any theme that you're using.
https://github.com/PrimeTimeCode/pt-wp-discourse-sso
I want a few more people to test it before I submit it to the public repo. I've created a composer project out of it, however, so you should be able to install it as a wp dependency easily by using a stack like Bedrock.
Setup is simple:
- Install the plugin.
- Generate a random string to use as the secret key.
- Copy this secret key and your Discourse board's URL to the settings page in your WP admin backend.
- Create a new page, and assign it the SSO template.
- Copy the full permalink URL of this page, as well as the secret key into the appropriate settings on your Discourse board as described here:
Voila - you should have proper SSO integration. Please let me know about any issues.

Edited 'about' post not showing changes
Shaunagm wrote:
I edited the pre-made, pinned 'About the sub-category' topic (including changing the title, if that's relevant), but my changes do not appear.
They have definitely been saved somewhere, because the new first paragraph is used when viewing the sub-category. When I click the pencil icon, I can also see my changed text in the 'raw' diff (on the right-hand/most recent side) while I can't see it in HTML or HTML diff.
Edited to add: While impatiently fiddling around, I clicked 'Hide Revision' on the menu you get from clicking the pencil icon. This caused my changes to finally propagate. Can anyone explain why this happened?

Does Discourse automatically delete unactivated users?
Joshua Frank wrote:
I wrote a script to create users from a spreadsheet, so an entire group will be added in one go. But from time to time, someone from a group will say they can't get in, and indeed there is no user for them, even though I know there was one in the past. I'm the only one who can delete a user, and I know I didn't do it.
So my question is: does Discourse automatically delete users? If so, what are the rules for this, and can I disable it?

Creating single docker instance with exchangeable data volumes
Jeffrey C Witt wrote:
So I don't know if this is a weird (or unusual) idea or not.
But I've been using Discourse for a discussion board in my classes this semester. These classes change every semester, and I'd generally like to create a fresh discussion for each new class.
Ideally, what I'd like to do is keep an existing web container running and just exchange a data volume with a new one (let's a say a kind of bare bones postgres template for the start of a new course).
This might also be useful if I wanted, quickly reload an old discussion board from a previous year --- perhaps I want to demonstrate to someone an exciting class discussion board from three years ago. In such I case I would like to be able to make a quick change to data.yml file and then rebuild see the discussion board exactly as it was at the end of that older semester. Then, of course, I'd like to be able to quickly switch back. (Obviously, this would mean that the current discussion board would be done for a while -- but that's fine in my case, because we take breaks between each semester
)
So here's my concrete suggestion:
Would this be as simple as creating a new volume in the data.yml file for each new class I want to create.
So for example, let's say I want to make a new discussion board for the Spring2014 and I name the data volume
Spring2014
in thedata.yml
taken from the sample folder.volumes: - volume: host: /var/discourse/shared/Spring2014 #I've changed this from `data` to `Spring2014' guest: /shared - volume: host: /var/discourse/shared/Spring2014/log/var-log #same change here `data` to `Spring2014' guest: /var/log
Then could I just run:
cd /var/discourse ./launcher bootstrap data ./launcher start data
I would expect this to create a data volume in /var/discourse/shared called `Spring2014'
At this point, would I even need to make any changes to web container?
Then, each semester, I could just modify the data.yml in this way to create the next class 'Fall2014' etc. And if I wanted to revert back to old instance, could I just supply the name of older class already existing in the
/var/discourse/shared
folder?
One final wrinkle, assuming the above is even close to correct: this semester I ran a multisite config, with a separate data and web container. But despite having, two databases for two sites, only one data volume was created, let's call this
/var/discourse/shared/Fall2014' (even thought right now it is really 'var/discourse/shared/data
). Is it correct to think about a multisite configuration as really having only one data volume, even though there are two separate databases? If so, in terms of the idea sketched above, it would be important for me to identify that this volume was created by a multisite config, because, if I ever wanted to re-launch it, I would need to use a different data.yml and web.yml file especially configured for multisite use. Maybe it should be called
var/discourse/shared/Fall2014-multi
so that I know I should run a separate data.yml and web.yml file configured for multisite. Even here though I would need to be careful, because while in a single config the first and only database name defaults todiscourse
, in a multi-site set up, I've created a second database name that needs to match up with the database in theFall2014-multi' data volume. (This is also true for the
web` only container in which the second database also needs to be named.)Perhaps in this case its best to create a different image file for each semester, (i.e. Fall2014-multi.yml) rather than trying to modify a single
data-multi.yml
and 'web-multi.yml' to be re-used each semester.Thoughts.
