About 2 weeks ago I setup a Discourse self-hosted install. Today I googled my domain name verbatim to see the results. I was shocked to see another Discourse site “SlideDog” displayed as title for the domain I own. I host on a private VPS, private IP address, not a shared host.
How could my domain show up as the top result with a different Discourse install that I have nothing to do with? SlideDog does have it’s own domain. Strangely enough, the google cache for that result points to SlideDog and says it was captured 2 days ago. Is this an exploit, bad redirect for bots, broken sitemap generated by Discourse pointing external for non-humans?
The 2nd and 3rd Google results are correct.
Worried and confused~

It looks like the preview pane when creating a new topic is broken. Inspecting via the browser console says the markdown-it-bundle…js script fails to load because of a timed out connection. Unlike other assets, this is being looked up through the IP address rather than the domain name: http://172.17.0.5/assets/markdown-it-bundle-fb0211dacd14c5223c2336cabe82bfaf9cf84e82cb3f328ff2d8a216d1d89fa9.js
I’d guess this is failing because the URL needs a port number if using the IP address.
Deployment Information:
I am using a single node docker deployment of discourse. I have set these 3 variables in container/app.yml
- DISCOURSE_HOSTNAME: sub.domain.com
- DISCOURSE_HOST_IP: {docker-host-IP}
- DOCKER_USE_HOSTNAME: true

Will it break my site if I remove user fields from sign-up box?
Currently I have some unwanted fields like: city, gender, etc. which I’m planning to remove.
If I remove these fields, will it create any inconsistencies when new users sign up?

Hey all,
Recently we implemented a few tweaks to our homepage based on some user testing and feedback from new Community visitors. Essentially we moved from Latest to the Categories view.
So far from what we can tell, new users are find it a bit easier to navigate and find the content they’re looking for. However…
Return users, such as our power users and Experts, keep needing to click ‘Latest’ as that’s the view that works better for them. Their feedback is that it’s easier to see which topics are getting activity, compared to those that aren’t, by looking at the ‘Latest’ view.
I think I once saw a way in these forums to show Latest to members/return visitors, and Categories to new visitors… but I can’t for the life of me find that topic.
Anyone have any ideas?

The
'Hide User Profiles from Public
’ option is a great feature for hiding user details, particularly their Display name, from anonymous users, but it is incomplete.Even when this feature is enabled, the lists in the
Users
,Groups
andBadges
directories (available to all visitors via the Hamburger menu) still show the user’s Display Name. Why are these not hidden here as well?My use case is:
- site can be browsed by public
- users’ details are private (so cards only load for logged-in members)
- the site offers a list of groups and badges, without revealing private information
This could be achieved by removing the Display Name from the fields shown on these lists, or by removing the Directory aspect of these pages and leaving only the list of Badges or Groups with their descriptions, but not who belongs to them, for all Anonymous users.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to achieve this?
Example of page where Hide Profiles is enabled, and visitor is not logged in, but names are displayed:

Hello,
I’m using the Azure AD plugin for authentication. The AzureAD oAuth plug-in is working great, except one thing: The user’s email address is incorrect. The plug-in is populating the email address as the short name and the Active Directory domain, neither of which are correct. Example: my email address is r-nix@mycollege.edu but the oAuth plugin is making the email address rtn456@ad.mycollege.edu. I can’t find a way to change the email address. The one set at account creation is incorrect so we can’t change it through the normal Discourse email change protocols.
Is there a way to edit the database manually if I can’t do it through the Discourse admin panel?
Thanks!
Ryan

Hi,
I’m talking about this plugin:
My questions:
How many of you have used this plugin (with the close button (X) disabled)
and haven’t noticed anything going bad with SEO?Even if there is an overlay-pop-up, search engines like Google can still read the content - its just real visitors who won’t be able to read the content - Will this really affect SEO (since the crawlers are anyways able to read the content)?
I disabled the close button (x) in the overlay pop-up - is this bad for SEO?
Some say that - with overlay-pop-ups the bounce rate will increase. I installed this plugin 2 days ago, I checked the stats, the bounce rate didn’t really change at all. Its still at 3.4 % (which I think is a pretty good score). Since this isn’t really affecting the bounce rate of my site - can I assume Google won’t mind me installing the overlay-pop-up?

I am migrating a bunch of content from the Jive Cloud to my discourse. I used the existing
jive_api.rb
which does not do attachments, so I am attempting to manually associate uploads with currently existing posts within discourse.Via the API, I don’t see a means to update a current post’s uploads. My thought to try is to add the uploads via the API and then manually update the
post_uploads
postgresql table to update the post’s associated uploads. Do you think this will work or am I missing some means via the API to make this happen?thank you

Hey everyone, just signed up here but been using Discourse for a while now with a community that has just surpassed 400 users.
As the topic title suggests, we’re hoping there is a way to automatically add new users to a specific group. This is so they can be flagged as ‘Not Verified’ using CSS as per the following snapshot:
An alternative could be to have the red flag show for users not in a specific group, but I’m not sure how to do this in the CSS.
Any help / guidance will be much appreciated!!

Is there any not-horribly-painful way to adjust multiple users’ “date of creation”? Let’s say I have a CSV or other data set of email address and date, for example.
Thanks to anyone who has an idea of how one might do with without too much effort!
