Hey Discourse Community!

Is it possible to put flags next to user’s profiles to show where their from? We have a very diverse community and I think it’d be a cool way to showcase that.

I’d appreciate any and all help!

I just came across this on my site - it is indeed possible to create a group with the same name as an existing username. Chaos ensues.

(Actually, not sure about the chaos - we had this situation for months before I noticed it today)

The publish time is particularly interesting for og:type article, because its news and when it happened makes a big diff. Favicon and nice title are a great little touch.

Private likes count shown in public profile

@nixie wrote:

I know that, in the past, “total likes count” used to be equal to “public likes+private likes”.

In my old discourse sites, there are a lot of users with 1k+ “as their likes count” - which includes “public+private likes”.

But, in a newly installed Discourse instance, I noticed that, “Private likes are no more counted in “total likes count” shown in public profiles”

My question - Is there any way to fix the “likes count” in my old discourse site?

Gandhi misattributed

I was translating narrative-bot/server.en.yml to Catalan when I found this sentence attributed to Mahatma Gandhi:

As a good Wikipedian, I checked for a source and… this quote seems to be a misattributed. Here is a suggestion for a legit one:

Freedom is not worth having if it does not connote freedom to err.

(I find amusing/profound that precisely a robot would bring this quote.) :smirk:

Fullscreen reader – More usability, less zooming

Following idea for a new usability feature:

In my workflow, I’m using Discourse to spend much time with reading. Most of these posts can become very long, due to the fact, they are about legal questions  There are long cases and much longer “solutions” of them.

What I’m really missing is an integrated reader mode. Safari e.g. won’t allow me to enable the browser reader mode (Why?). The default text size is okay for short texts and quickly reading them. But for real focusing on content, there is soo much “wasted” (often empty) space.

In addition to that, maybe - just maybe -, it would be a veryyyyy sexy feature in addition to that, if the user will be able to add highlights on text passages. Maybe some one colour for private notes and one for publicly sharing.

What do you think guys?

Everything works well.

But new users get an email with an wrong baseurl.
the domain extension should be .nl for my installation but it says .com

Can somebody point me out how to change this?
I’m quit new with linux so a stepguide would be great.

My intention is to test discourse for a couple of months in this way and upgrade to an paid account after that.

Kind regards!

Hi,

I’ve configured many of the social networks so that users can log in using them, however the Yahoo login doesn’t seem to work. I have read in other posts that yahoo logins might be temperamental. Can you help?

@dcc wrote:

Hi

I’m having a problem getting Avatars to download for SSO with WordPress. Everything appears to be set up correctly, the SSO from Wordpress is working, the avatar URL is being set correctly. I’ve confirmed that from my production instance I can curl the URL stored in the user profile and get an image file from it. On v1.9.0.beta14 +202

The error I’m getting in logs is:

Hello All,

Our forum grew from few people to few hundreds now and we started getting complaints about too many emails.

I turned off “mailing list mode”.

But still, users who registered when it was ON, get the email for everything.

  • Is that an expected behavior?

Since our forum has grown and still growing, I want to clean up a bit have a situation where.

For certain categories.

  • Category-1 : I want emails for all posts. I think, the term is Watching
  • Category-2: I want email for new topic. I think, there is an option available.
  • Most Categories: I want no emails to be sent (unless @mentioned), and prefer users coming to site and participating.

I want to set this up, but given 600 users have registered when I had mailing list mode ON, how can do this?

  • Should I go to DB and turn-off the mailing list mode from their profile.
  • Then I could use Watching and Tracking as needed and will be get the desired behavior?

Thanks,
Senthil

How to properly edit "volumes" in app.yaml?

I have a new /mnt/ volume from digital ocean. I just rsync’d my /var/discourse to /mnt/sf02-storage/var/discourse. Seems that the only thing left is to change volumes.

The question is: is “guest” a local path? Should I keep it /shared and /var/log? Or should I do /mnt/sf02-storage/shared and /mnt/sf02-storage/var/log?

volumes:
  - volume:
      host: /var/discourse/shared/standalone
      guest: /shared
  - volume:
      host: /var/discourse/shared/standalone/log/var-log
      guest: /var/log
