429 too many emoji requests 😥

After opening the emoji selector in the post editor, discourse throws users out once they load a page again (like after submitting a post).

429 Too Many Requests

Your IP address has made too many requests to this service over a short amount of time. Please wait a few minutes and try again.

If you are behind a proxy or coming from a large company, you and many other users may appear to be the same person. Please let us know of recurring problems by email: team@discourse.org

It seems it was not the user trying to DDOS discourse, but discourse itself. If there is a way, maybe distinct requests to resources (like emojis) should not be considered? Or all emojis should be combined into a sprite?

Watched categories not displayed in user preferences

@Guillaume_Smet wrote:

Hi!

I went to Preferences / Notifications / Categories .

Then chose a few categories in the Watched field.

Finally I clicked Save.

When I go back to Preferences / Notifications / Categories, the selected categories are not there: the Watched field is empty.

However, when I click on the field to define them again, the ones I selected before are not there anymore, so I suppose they are saved somehow.

This is on a hosted Discourse instance (discourse.hibernate.org) with Firefox 57 on Fedora.

Thanks!

Can't find Chrome stable

@robl wrote:

Hi everyone and thanks for creating a wonderful communications tool,

Generally I don’t have a Google account on my Android devices. The Discourse app insists on Chrome stable. I’ve installed several versions that were said to be stable without success. Is there a definitive way to find Chrome stable for my device?
How do I tell if I have a stable version installed? How is Discourse determining that I don’t have a stable version?

Slack works fine in this regard but I like Discourse for other reasons.

The web version works fine btw as I’m using it now.

A dependency on a Google account is something only a few usually paid apps have. It just doesn’t make sense really. I’ve got a recent (stable?) chrome

Thanks in advance

Just wondering if it’s possible to calculate that how many users are watching or tracking a particular topic? Also, if it’s possible to get their details (like emails)?

If someone changes their email in WordPress, change it in Discourse - sso_sync

@lkramer wrote:

Howdy all. I’ve spent a couple hours reading threads and trying to get this work with no luck.

Basically we just want that if someone changes their email in WordPress, it gets changed in Discourse.

I think I can use the sso_sync api call but I can’t seem to figure out how to use it. Can anyone help with a php code example? (I use other discourse api calls successfully. Just can’t figure out how to use this one.)

Thanks!

User has changed their Google account and cannot login

$

@supermathie wrote:

Problem

This situation arises when

  • the user logs into their account using Google authentication
  • the user then tries to log into their account using a different Google account that still matches their Discourse account

The user will see

  • a blank screen after attempted login (pre 2017-12-21)
  • or, a generic HTTP Error code 500 (pre 2017-12-21)
  • or, the following message:
    image

This can happen when

  • the user changes their email address then logs in with a new Google account matching their new email
  • the user has their Google account recreated (in a managed scenario)
  • the user had their Google account deleted, but someone has created a new one matching the previous email address. This scenario does not happen often and could potentially be malicious intent.

Solution

The scenario involving a normal email address change has been recently (2017-12-21) fixed and will automatically be handled by installs after that date as described here.

The fix involves deleting the previously cached Google account information for the user from the rails console:

User.find_by_username('«DISCOURSE_USERNAME»').google_user_info.destroy_all

Hosted customers (without access to the rails console) can contact us through the usual support channels to perform this operation.

First, excuse my horrible English. In the end I will write it in Spanish in case someone prefers it :slight_smile:

I have a problem with backups I always erase all, I only keep the last one. But they still occupy space and I’m running out of space. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

So I have taken over a company’s Community, and we’re currently using AnswerHub :eek:. I am moving us back to Discourse, but we need to bring over our users, questions, comments, accepted answers, etc. I can export either CSV, JSON, or XML.

Anyone ever dealt with AnswerHub before? Anyone ever tried to import from there?

  1. Discobot should respond to help as well as the verbose display help

  2. how about changing:
    @discobot start new user
    to:
    @discobot start new user or @discobot start advanced user

I know my eyes glossed over the quoted section after that line since I read start new user and had already done it… and I was looking for advanced user.

We’ve had a fantastic year at Discourse, growing our team to 20 21 people. (There’s also something exciting and major happening early in 2018 that we’ve worked hard on for the last six months that we can’t quite announce yet. But trust me when I say we are very excited!) Starting from our initial prototype…

I can completely understand if this gets rejected.

I was thinking of adding this to my instance with the help of a plugin.
Thought its better to check if there is any plan to add it in Discourse by default. If no, then I’ll go ahead with my plugin plan

It can still be inserted, but this warning shouldn’t show.

WAIT A MINUTE - those shouldn’t even be there at all the poll type is ‘Single Choice’. They should be hidden when the dialog is first created.
