Some mod actions cannot be undone at all?

@wolftune wrote:

There seem to be some ways where even an admin cannot undo a (potentially mistaken) moderator action.

For example, a mod can disagree with their own flagging of a post. In that case, the same mod cannot flag the post again. That process seems to permanently block the mod from flagging the post, no way to undo.

There’s Undo official warning too

Finally, it seems from my testing that if a mod chooses “agree” and “hide post” after flagging notification, the mod (even as admin) cannot change their mind and show the post again. There appears to be no function to unhide the post other than the original poster editing it.

Am I missing something?

mod-mode could help avoid

If it were possible for mods to log out of mod mode or similar have an extra step to take for a “sudo mode” type of thing, that could at least be an appropriate way to be extra careful around non-undoable actions. But, as a UX generality, extra blocks and warnings before taking permanent actions are still not as optimal as having working undo.

Does Discourse handle blocking of IPv6 okay?

@1101010 wrote:

We’ve got a troll who keeps coming back and it’s true that he has a new IP each time but it’s relatively easy for me to spot him and stop him based on his location coming up and his style. Mostly he has IPv6 IPs

What I noticed was that Screened IPs shows a couple of his:

But they’re not the full IP. When I put 2001 into the Search box on the top right it brings up nothing, whereas if I do, say, ‘81’, I get a couple of IPv4s come up.

Anyway, all of his IPv6 addresses begin
2001:2012:208:2a00
so I’d like to do a block mask on that basis but I’m not sure if masks are possible but I assume they are. However, since the full IP isn’t showing on this screen I wasn’t sure what that meant in terms of doing such a block?

Thanks

Customizing which groups appear on /about page?

@Flower_Child wrote:

I’ve been looking for a way to customize which groups that appear on the /about page. My community has not only admins and moderators, but also other custom “staff” groups (such as a social media team) that I’d like to be able to include there as well. Ideally it would be nice to have a boolean field that can be set per group determining whether it should appear on that page, which is what I’ve been looking into with no success.

Does no such feature exist? And if it would have to be done via a plugin, what would be the best way to do that? I know how to create plugins and have already made some simple changes using them, I’m just not sure how to approach this in particular.

Hide "NEW" for TL1 and above

We recently started hiding descriptions in the category drop-down for TL1 users and above. I wonder if we could apply this to some other visuals in Discourse. The first that came to mind is the NEW indicator, which is pretty strong:

What if we toned it down for TL1?

We got close to changing this once, but opted not to. @sam objected to scaling it to TLs for some reason; I’m curious if that thinking has changed.

Personally I think we have a really good opportunity with TLs to do progressive reduction to an extent that few other applications can do with such ease.

Morning guys,

I see discussion about a font size theme. Is there one? I can’t find it if there is. My selection of the correct keywords in searches stinks lately.

Absent that, what are the best up to date topics for adding code to change the font size?

Am I understand this right? You can change the base code and all fonts get changed in proportion to the base font size or . . . if you want to change font size for a particular area, you would add code specific for that area?

Silent login/signup via Auth0

Hi

I am trying to achieve SSO for the following scenario.

My application authenticates users agains auth0. Once authenticated, whenever the user visits the discourse page, I expect the user to be logged in silently without having to re-enter credentials (using the credentials from the initial login to my application).

Has anyone tackled this scenario?

Currently i have an Auth0 rule that upon authentication re-directs to discourse via the /sso/ path, passing the sso credentials from Auth0. This logs the user in, or creates the discourse account and then logs user in for a new discourse user.
But I want to achieve this without the Auth0 redirect so the experience to the user is seamless and he/she is already logged in when deciding to visit the discourse page.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
The same issue has been raised here, but there was no solutions proposed:
